Land & Human Work
Sensitive to the preservation of the Earth, our ancestors passed on to us the value of work and respect for nature. We cultivate our vines on clay-loam and clay-gravel soils, depending on the sector. The grape varieties and rootstocks are chosen according to the exposures and soils that we analyze before planting.
Today we are more attentive than ever to preserving plants and perpetuating the work started in 1900 by our family. Thus, vines over 88 years old are still present on our vineyard.
We evolve in a modern world while remaining aware of the essential work of Man. Therefore, a lot of work is still carried out manually throughout the year . In the context of prophylactic control (aimed at preventing the appearance, reappearance and/or spread of diseases), machines will never replace the eye and hand of Man, precise and rigorous, naturally ensuring a state quality sanitary facilities . All these treatments promote better maturity of the grapes at harvest time.
Hve and Terra Vitis environmental certifications!
Sensitive to environmental protection , we took a turn a few years ago by consciously thinking about our farming practices.
Since 2017, we have cultivated part of our vines without weedkiller and with natural phytosanitary products. From this work was born the Cuvée Ancestrale !
Tired of using our grandparents’ plow, we invested in a more modern interceptor in order to weed mechanically.
In January 2018, we were rewarded by the Nouvelle Aquitaine region with Environmental Responsible Agriculture certification in Aquitaine. the Garbes team , reinforcing and valuing all the work put in!
HVE & Terra Vitis, committed environmental certifications !
In this continuity, in 2019 we obtained HVE 3 and Terra Vitis certification !
HVE 3 aims to promote production from farms that voluntarily engage in environmentally friendly approaches. Terra Vitis is a 1901 law association created in 1998. It is a network of several hundred winegrowers from all French wine-growing regions. They share the same love of a generous and living land, worked with respect. These certifications are subject to audits every year, recognizing the work undertaken by our teams and our choices of farming methods. Direct sales from winegrowers to consumers
Colette and Pierrot DAVID were the first to initiate sales to individuals and to travel the roads of France to have our wines tasted. This method of marketing was continued and subsequently developed by Annie and Jean Luc DAVID. It is essential for us to perpetuate this direct contact in order to communicate to you Garbes news and projects and to let you taste our new range at trade shows.
Twice a year, we go on the road delivering to the west of France, Belgium and Germany. Some of you have known us for three generations now.
