Exposed on the slopes of Garonne, 45 kilometers south of Bordeaux , the property takes its name from the cadastral locality “Garbes”
The history of Château de Garbes has been linked to our family for 6 generations , parents and their children succeed one another at the head of this estate. Each generation has participated in the development of the structure: 10 hectares of vines in 1900 during the After purchasing the Domaine de Garbes, Jean-Luc, Annie and their children now farm 63 hectares.
The ancients said that the oldest part of the house was a hunting lodge belonging to the family of the Dukes of Épernon, whose castle is in Cadillac. A stone of nobility above the entrance door, whose coat of arms was unfortunately destroyed during the revolution, seems to attest to this.
In 1900, Étienne SERGENTON and his son-in-law, Adrien MASSIEU ((husband of Emilia MASSIEU), apurchased the Domaine de Garbes, a property of 35 ha in one piece, including 10 ha of vines, the rest in woods and meadows.
You will be able to recognize in the photo, the little boy who is none other than Pierre DAVID, the grandfather of the family…
Marguerite named Margot MASSIEU, the only daughter of Emilia and Adrien Massieu, married Maurice DAVID. They will be wine growers in Monprimblanc, the neighboring town.
Their eldest son, Pierre DAVID, married Colette POIGNET in 1952 and the young couple settled on the Garbes property, alongside Pierre’s grandparents. They will have four children including Jean-Luc who is their eldest son. In 1964, he took the initiative of planting red grape varieties on the farm. In order to sell his wine production, he is the first to approach private customers.

Today, Colette and Pierrot are still present in the vineyard. They help in certain works and remain references of their time.

The Garbes team
“Behind each bottle of wine lies the know-how of essential teamwork
We cultivate our vines in a traditional and sustainable way. We are as close as possible to our terroirs and adapt our farming practices to the weather conditions of the vintage. We combine advances in mechanization with manual methods in order to protect our vines and optimize the quality of our wines.
We are assisted by a team of employees: Valérie, Micheline, Aurélie, Isabelle, Jean-Marc, Thierry, Kenny and Teddy who know their winemaking profession from pruning to harvest. These employees have worked at Garbes for several years and remain faithful to our objectives. Working in a friendly atmosphere throughout the seasons is essential for everyone’s morale.
