A family of enthusiasts

Exposed on the hills of Garonne, 45 kilometers at the south of Bordeaux, the property took its name from the cadastral locality “Garbes”

The history of Château de Garbes has been linked to our family for 6 generations. Parents and their children succeed one another at the head of this estate. Each generation participates in the development of the vineyard. From 10 hectares of vines, in 1900 when the Domaine de Garbes was purchased, Jean-Luc, Annie and their children now farm 63 hectares.

A committed vineyard

Our ancestors passed on to us the value of work and respect for the environment. We grow our vines on clay-loam and clay-gravel soils, depending on the sector. The grape varieties and rootstocks are chosen according to the exposure and soils that we analyze before planting.

Today, more than ever, we are attentive to preserving plants and continuing the work started in 1900 by our family. Thus, vines over 88 years old are still present in our vineyard.

We evolve in a modern world while remaining aware of the necessity of the manual work. Therefore, a lot of work is still carried out manually throughout the year. In the context of prophylactic control (aimed at preventing the appearance, reappearance and/or spread of diseases), machines will never replace the eyes and hand of a man. We are more precise and rigorous, naturally ensuring a state quality and sanitary facilities. All these treatments promote better maturity of the grapes at harvest time.
